Social Entre House Dream Comes True
A vision of social entrepreneurs sharing office space and sharing ideas.
Author: Irene Fernando, STLF
At last year's Small Staff Holiday Party (2008), a woman atttended that changed our lives forever! Jacquie Berglund is the founder of Finnegans Irish Amber, a socially responsible beer that donated 100% of its profits to charity. They ask to "drink like you care" and have already donated nearly over $158,000 to fight poverty. Jacquie's vision was to have a hub for social entrepreneurial organizations, to share ideas, resources, and energy. She found office space at an old mansion on the edge of downtown-- the beginning of this "Social Entrepreneurship House." At the party last year, Alex Johnston connected with Jacquie and he soon moved into the house. STLF moved in this past spring, and now, the house is completely full with organizations like DEMO, World Savvy, Rainwater Renewal, E Funk Productions, Egg Module, and more.
It is fun to see an idea come full circle. Last week, STLF hosted its Small Staff Holiday Party for this year. Although some guests couldn't join us, we were pleasantly surprised with Garrett, WCCO Camerman, who braved the first big snowfall to shoot some footage! WCCO has an excellent peice on Finnegans up, and included some information on STLF. Read the article and watch the video. Happy Holidays!
