Freshmen Teri Jones says...
“As a teenager born in the Delta and raised in and around the Washington County area, I have seen and experienced many levels of poverty and negative influences. Even in the face of many overwhelming odds, I have endeavored to stay away from these negative influences – but coming from a family of six, poverty seems to be around every corner. My positive outlook, battered as a ship in a storm, remains firm; due mainly to my sincere belief in my ability to improve our communities simply by becoming a productive teen member of society.”
Sophomore LeShervin Jones says...
“I have never been picked for anything at school… I will work hard to prove that I can be a good leader. I feel that everything at school is always for the smart kids. It seems to me that only the smart kids matter. I always feel left out. It is not always the smart kids that makes the best leaders. I can show great leadership, diversity, and team work, because inside I have the desire to prove that I am just as good. I feel everyone should be given an opportunity to be a part of something.”
Junior Shambria Chillis says...
“My dream community service project is to tear down all the abandoned houses in my community. If I can’t tear all of them down, then I would like to tear down as many houses as I can. Once these houses are torn down, then I would like to clean off the lot where the house once stood. I want to help my community look better and be a better place.”
Senior Tarra Head says...
“Most seniors are going on the traditional class trip, but I feel as though I can spend my spring break doing something more productive. Taking a part in the tour will give me a chance to make a difference in other people’s lives. It will also give me a chance to work – hands on – with others. I want to not only look back and know that I took a part in an amazing community service project, but to also know that I did it all with a wonderful school.”
